Deich Bliadhna

December 5th, 2016 No comments

Chaidh Camanachd Leòdhais ath-stèidheachadh às ùr Diardaoin, an t-seachdamh là den Dubhlachd 2006.

Chaidh a’ chiad choinneamh a chumail anns an t-seòmar-teagaisg Ghàidhlig anns an t-seann phrìomh thogalach aig Sgoil MhicNeacail. (a-nis mu làr).

Chaidh bùn-stèidh aontachadh agus chaidh ainmean a chur ris le Eòghan Stiùbhart agus Micheal Dòmhnallach.

An lathair bha an dithis sin, Conor Dòmhnallach, Seumas Friseal, Daniel “Gaga” Gallagher, Eòghainn MacAoidh, Sean MacLeòid, Alasdair “Fro” MacLeòid agus feadhainn eile.

Is iomadh euchd agus oidhirp a thachair on latha eachdraidheil a bha sin agus tha sinn moiteil as gach cluicheadair a chosg an dubh is gorm san àm sin. ‘S ann mar seo a nì sinn e sna h-Innse Gall.

Camanachd Leòdhais was re-constituted on Thursday the 7th of December 2006. The inaugural meeting was held in the Gaelic classroom in the old main building of the Nicolson Institute. (Now demolished). The constitution of the club was agreed and signed by Eòghan Stewart and Micheal Macdonald. In attendance were the two signatories, Conor Macdonald, Jamie Fraser, Daniel “Gaga” Gallagher, Ewan MacKay, Sean MacLeod, Alexander”Fro” MacLeod and others. (If you were in attendance, please remind us and your name will be added.)

In the ten years since that date, Camanachd Leòdhais have made history and will continue to make history in the years to come. Whilst we as a club have only small moments of glory relative to those of more established clubs, we are very proud of how far we have come as a club in that time. To be the first side from the Western Isles to compete in Camanachd Association competition, first at Cup level and then on the regular and more intense league basis, and to play the first fixtures in the islands themselves, have been achievements in themselves, acheivements of which we are intensely proud. To now have a vibrant youth section, to field 15 players at least every week, and to regularly pick up points and to cause our opponents to respect us are the real and concrete week to week satisfactiosn that we feel as Camanachd Leòdhais players, officials and supporters.

We look forward to welcoming you to Shawbost and the Isles of Lewis and Harris for the next ten years, and many more decades to come. This is how we do it in the Western Isles. Dubh is Gorm.

Camanachd Innse Gall agus Cupa a’ Mhòid – Duais Iomain a’ Chomuinn

September 30th, 2016 No comments

Lewis CamanachdChaidh Cupa a’ Mhòid a thoirt seachad airson a’ chiad uiar le Meur Comunn Gàidhealach na h-Aghaidh Mòire ann an naoi ceud deug ’s a trì fichead ’s a naoi. Is mòr an t-iongnadh nach robh iomain an-sàs anns an fhèis roimhne sin, leis cho làidir sa tha an ceangal eadar an spòrs agus an cànan – ach is beag an t-iongnadh gun do  shaoil cuideigin aig a’ Chomunn gum biodh an Aghaidh Mhòr glè fhreagarrach airson co-fharpais den leithid a bhith anns an reasoirt ùr leis gu bheil Sgìre Bhaideanaich cho ainmeil airson iomain.

Gu dearbh, chaidh a’ chiad chluiche de Chupa a’ Mhòid a chumail eadar an dà fhuamhaire ud, Baile Ùr an t-Slèibh agus Cinn a’ Ghiuthsaich – agus leis gun robh am Baile Ùr cho làidir aig am àm, chan eil e na iongnadh gun do bhuannaich iad – agus gus an latha an diugh, ’s e an aon duais nàiseanta nach do bhuinnig Cinn a’ Ghiuthsaich riamh.

Is e duais eireachdail a th’ ann an Cupa a’ Mhòid, gu math coltach ann am meud agus crùth ris an t-seann European Cup Winners Cup air an d’ fhuair Obar Dheathain agus Rangers greim uair neo uaireigin.  B’ àbhaist do bhonaid a bhith air a’ chupa, ach chaidh sin air iomrall thar nan linntean.

Is e duais shònraichte a th’ anns a’ Chupa cuideachd, leis gu bheil e ga chluich leis an dà sgioba as fhaisge air a’ Mhòd aig an àm.  Tha seo air cothrom a thoirt do mheasgachadh math de sgiobaidhean, gu h-àraidh sgiobaidhean beaga nach eil ro chleachdte ris an leithid, greim fhaighinn air duais nàiseanta.

Tha am Mòd air a bhith ann an Steòrnabhagh (1979, 1989 agus 2001), no ’s na h-Eileanan Siar (2005 agus 2011) còig tursan agus tha gach uair air cuir ri sgeulachd inntinneach na h-iomain anns an Innse Gall.

Chan eil e buileach soilleir mar a thachair leis a’ Mhòd ann an 1979 ach gun do bhuannaich Loch Carrain an aghaidh Camanachd an Eilein Sgitheanaich 5-3 as dèidh ùine a bharrachd. Tha aon rud cinnteach, bha Boyd MacCoinnich, fear a bha cho cudromach ri ath-leasachadh na Camanachd san eilean seo a’ cluich dha na Carrannaich.

Ann an 1989, thàinig Camanachd an Eilein gu Steòrnabhagh còmhla ris a’ Mhanachainn – chluich iad aig Ceann a’ Bhàigh le Eanraig MacAonghais mar rèitire. Bhuinnig an t-Eilean 4-2. A-rèir coltais, thug e seachdain do chuid dhe na gillean (tòrr a bha an-sàs anns an ath sheusan nuair a thog iad Cupa na Camanachd) a thilleadh a Phort Rìgh. Chaidh tadhal a thogail ann an Steòrnabhagh gu sònraichte airson a’ ghèam ach cha bhiodh gùth air spòrs nan Gàidheal ann an Leòdhas airson sia bliadhnaichean eile nuair a thòisich Dr Barden is a leithid na sgiobaidhean òigridh air feadh Eilean an Fhraoich.

Ann an 2001, cha robh ach Camanachd a’ Bhaic fo stiùir Bhoyd MhicCoinnich a’ cumail an àird ar spòrs agus chluich iad a’ chiad gheam iomain anns na Hearadh o chionn bhliadhnaichean an aghaidh Caol Acainn às an Eilean Sgitheanach. Is e 11-0 a bh’ anns an sgòr, ach a’ faicinn gun robh leithid de na bràithrean Moireasdanach, MhicIlleinein agus Sarah Corrigall anns an sguad òg sin, cha robh nàire sam bith ann dha na Bacaich òga a bhith a’ call. Gus an latha an-diugh, ’s e Caol Acainn an aon sgioba bhun-sgoil a bhuannaich duais naiseanta (no duais inbhich ann an spòrs sam bith le cinnt!).

Chaidh cràthadh a thoirt air cumadh a’ Mhòid anna n 2005, nuair a chaidh tagradh tar-eileanach a dhèanamh agus le sin, chaidh an gèam a chluich ann an Uibhist airson a’ chiad uair. Cha robh sgioba Leòdhasach air cluich còmhla ach uair no dhà roimhne seo. A-rèir aithisg on àm le Ally “Fro” MacLeòid:

“A match held during MOD 2005 was unquestionably Lewis’s worst performance so far. Poor defending, poor attacking, poor communication, poor passing and non-existent teamwork meant that we were lucky not to concede any more. James Mackenzie put in a captain’s performance and was undoubtedly Lewis’s best player, but everyone else was pretty awful (no offence everyone else), and even he couldn’t stop this heavy loss. The bus journey was fun…”

Bha e inntinneach dhà-rireabh ge-tà gur e mac Bhoy MhicCoinnich, Seumas a bh’ anns a’ chluicheadair a b’ fheàrr aig na Leòdhasaich, agus gun robh na ceanglaichean sin ann eadar 1979 is 2005.

Thug an call ann an 2005 spionnadh dhan Chomann a bha air ath-stèidheachadh ann an Leòdhas anns an Dubhlachd 2006 a bhith a’ leasachadh, agus leis an amas airson an cupa a bhuannachadh ann an 2011, chuir an Dubh is Gorm a-steach dha na cupannan aig Comann na Camanachd ann an 2007, agus an uairisn dhan Treas Roinn a Tuath ann an 2011 . Agus gu dearbh, is dualtach gur e Freastal a bha a’ ciallachadh gum biodh iad a’ farpais airson Duais a’ Chomuinn anns a’ chiad bhliadhna a chluich iad anns na lìogaichean an aghaidh Camanachd Uibhist.

Bha Uibhist gu math làidir aig an àm, a’ cluich ann an Lìog Leasachaidh Comann na Camanachd, agus bha geam faisg air a bhtih ann eadar an dà sgioba aig Fèis Cheilteach Innse Gall, le Leòdhas a’ buannachadh 3-1. Cha robh e buileach soilleir cho gheibheadh làmh an uachdair nuair a bhiodh iad a’ coinneachadh aig Sgoil Lionacleit.

Dh’èirich na Leòdhasaich tràth agus chaidh iad suas gu deas ann am Coidse nan Loch. Cha robh trioblaid sam bith ach gun robh sinn fada ro thràth anns an t-Òb agus theab Sgot Moireach am bàta a chall lesi gun robh e a’ gabhail air a shocair a’ coiseachd air ais on Bhutty Van!

Air madainn chàilear, loidhnich an dà sgioba an-àird. Is e gèam faisg a bh’ ann, le iomadh car mus do chuir Will Church dà thadhal airson a’ chùis a chur seachad.  Rinn na balaich Leòdhasach gàirdeachas mòr agus chaidh an duais a thoirt dhachaigh thar Caolas na Hearadh.  Cha robh ach aon chall ann, gun do sgrìobh Diablo òran mu dheidhinn!  Is e dòigh shònraichte a bh’ ann airson bliadhna eachdraidheil do dh’iomain sna h-Eileanan an Iar a dhùnadh.

Tha am Mòd a’ tilleadh a-rithist anns an Dàmhair dha na h-Eileanan. Bha còir aig an geam am-bliadhna seo a bhith ga cluich ann an Uibhist a-rithist ach gu mì-fhortanach, tha eilthireachd agus oilthighean air buaidh mhòr a thoirt air sgioba Uibhist o chionn ghoirid agus mar sin, ’s e an dara sgioba aig an Eilean Sgitheanach a bhios a’ cluich nar n-aghaidh airson Cupa a’ Mhòid am-bliadhna.

Chan eil caraidean cho taiceil no cho dlùth air a bhith againn ris na Sgitheanaich far na pàirce nar strì airson inbhe ann an saoghal na Camanachd. Air a’ phàirc, chan eil na geamannan air a bhith ro fhaisg gu ruige seo, ach tha iad uile air a bhith gan cluich ann an spioraid air leth, agus bidh e na dhòigh fhreagarrach airson deich seusanan aig Camanachd Leòdhais a chòmharrachadh.

Mholadh sinn dhuibh uile a thighinn ann agus hò-rò-gheallaidh a dhèanamh còmhla rinn.

Taing dhan Chomunn Ghàidhealach airson taic a chur ri Cupa a’ Mhòid.

Tha brosnachadh na Gàidhlig ann am bun-stèidh Chamanachd Leòdhais. Tha cleachdadh agus ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig gam brosnachadh do chluicheadairean agus do bhuill, air a’ phàirc agus far na pàirce. Seo dhuibh beagan abairtean feumail do chluicheadairean, coidsichean agus luchd-taic.

Tha misneachd nar dualchas is nar cànan a’ toirt dhuinn pròis nar sgioba agus nar n-eileanan fhèin.

Camanachd Leòdhais has the promotion of the Gaelic language included in its constitution. Its use and acquisition is encouraged by all players and members, both on and off the park. Here are some useful phrases for players, coaches and supporters.

Confidence in our culture and language breeds pride in the team and in the islands we represent.

September 28th, 2015 No comments

Mealaibh an naidheachd air Pòl agus Paddy. Rinn iadsan sguad na h-Alba airson Iomain Cholmcille 8 ann an Gaoth Dobhair Disathairne 10mh An Damhair.  ‘S e Eòghan a tha anns a’ mhanaidsear a-rithist agus bidh esan a’ cluich cuideachd.

Congratulations to Paul Duke and Paddy Sinclair, they have been selected for the Alba squad for Iomain Cholmcille 8 in Gweedore on Saturday 10th October. Eòghan is the manager again and he will also be taking a playing role.

PRESS RELEASE

Alba air sguad ainmeachadh airson Iomain Cholmcille a hOcht

Tha Alba, Sgioba Iomain na Gàidhlig air sguad nam fear ainmeachadh airson Iomain Cholmcille 8 ann an Gaoth Dobhair Disathairne 10 An Damhair.

Is e Iomain Cholmcille fear dhe na tachartasan spòrs as sònraichte san t-saoghal, far am feum Gàidhlig na h-Alba no na h-Èireann a bhith aig a h-uile cluicheadair agus a bhith ga chur gu feum air a’ phàirc agus far na pàirce cuideachd.

Tha e a’ tilleadh a dh’Èirinn as dèidh a bhith ga chumail gu soirbheachail ann an Glaschu an-uiridh ach airson a’ chiad uair, bidh e ga chumail ann an Conntae Dhùn nan Gall, air neo Tìr Chonnaill anns an sgire Ghaeltacht, Gaoth Dobhair.

Tha Eòghan Stiùbhart a’ tilleadh gu dreuchd mar mhanaidsear na sgioba agus mar chluicheadair às dèidh do Aonghas MacDhòmhnaill a dhèanamh an-uiridh cho fad ’s gun robh Eòghan a’ ruith chùisean far na pàirce. Tha e toilichte a bhith air ais ann an dreuchd-cluich a-rithist agus e làn mholadh dhan sguad aige.

“Tha sguad beag dìleas againn – bha e doirbh do ghille no dhà na làithean fhaighinn far na h-obrach agus tha feum aig feadhainn a chluich do dara sgioba an Eilein Sgitheanaich ach tha mi riaraichte leis an sguad mar a tha e. Tha measgachadh math de chluicheadairean eòlach, cluicheadairean ùra agus daoine aig a bheil diofar ìrean de Ghàidhlig ach a bhios uile gu math deònach an cànan a chur gu feum agus na sgilean aca, an dà chuid ann an Gàidhlig agus ann an iomain a leasachadh.”

“Tha Gilleasbuig MacDhòmhnail ainmeil mar sàr-chluicheadair agus sàr-Ghàidheil agus tha grunn mhath de Sgitheanaich san sguad a tha air cluich aig fìor àrd-ìre am-bliadhna. Tha Eòghainn Caimbeul air a dhèanamh glè mhath don Mhanachainn cuideachd agus esan ann an sguad treanaidh na h-Alba aig aois fo 21, agus tha e math gu bheil an cothrom aig Niall Iain Caimbeul agus Calum Gibb a bhith a’ tighinn air turas mu dheireadh thall.  Tha mi toilichte cuideachd gu bheil Lawrence Belleni còmhla rinn, tha esan air Gàidhlig ionnsachadh air a cheann fhèin agus bidh e a’ cur mòran ri cluich agus craic na sgioba.”

Chaill Alba an cuach aig an taigh ann an Glaschu an-uiridh agus bidh dùbhlan mòr romhpa thall ann an Èirinn le Fir Uladh agus Cumann Micheal Breathnach a’ feitheamh orra.

Airson a’ chiad uair, bidh farpais dha na boireannaich ann, agus bidh co-mhanaidsearan na h-Alba, Catrìona Gibb agus Ciorstaidh NicLeòid ag ainmeachadh an sgioba anns an ath dà latha. Tha sgioba nam Ban a’ faighinn taic-airgid o McIntyre & Co, luchd-lagha anns a’ Ghearasdan.

Alba name men’s squad for Iomain Cholmcille 8

Alba, the Gaelic Shinty Team has named their men’s squad for Iomain Cholmcille 8 in Gweedore on Saturday 10th October.

Iomain Cholmcille is one of the World’s unique sporting events, where every player must have either Scottish or Irish Gaelic and is required to use it on and off the park.

It returns to Ireland after a successful running in Glasgow last year but for the first time it will be held in the county of Donegal, also known as Tir Chonnaill, in the Gaeltacht area of Gweedore.

Eòghan Stewart returns as manager of the suqad (and in a playing capacity) after Nui Macdonald taking the reins last year whilst Eòghan co-ordinated the event. He is happy to be back in a playing role but had fulsome praise for his squad.

“We have a small but committed squad – it was difficult for a couple of players to get time off work and a few players were required by the Skye Camanachd second team as they have an important fixture that day but I am delighted with the squad I have. There is a good mix of experience, exciting youngsters and people with differing levels of Gaelic but who are all willing to speak and use it and develop both their Gaelic and shinty skills.”

“Gilleasbuig Macdonald is known as a fine player and fine Gaelic speaker and there is a good pack of Skyemen who have played to a truly fine standard this year. Ewen Campbell has done very well for Beauly and is in the National U21 Training Squad and it is great that Neil John Campbell and Calum Gibb are finally getting the opportunity to come on tour. I am also very happy that Lawrence Belleni will be with us, he’s learned Gaelic off his own back and will add a lot to both the play and the craic.”

Alba were defeated in their quest for the Còrn Cholmcille last year in Glasgow and they face a strong challenge over in Ireland in the form of Fir Uladh, the current holders and Cumann Micheal Breathnach.

For the first time, there will be a ladies competition and Alba co-managers, Catriona Gibb and Kirstie Macleod will be naming their squad in the coming days.  The ladies team have received sponsorship from McIntyre & Co, Solicitors in Fort William.

Iomain Cholmcille receives support from Colmcille, the international body for developing and strengthening links between Gaelic speakers in Scotland and Ireland.
