Last Saturday (22 May) Stornoway Primary saw the now annual Minch Medal happen for the 3rd year in a row and it was again a bit of a deja-vu with Kinlochbervie winning, Uist coming in 2nd place and Lewis (playing under the name Nicolson Institute) in 3rd.

This doesn’t tell the full story however.  KLB have been competing regularly against teams from the heartlands of shinty for the last 3 years at school tournaments and the Development Cup and have done well. Uist have also spent the last two years having regular fixtures against Skye, who are one of the best U-14 teams out there – so in relative terms they have much more experience than our boys.

Which makes the scorelines this year a very positive sign for the future of Lewis shinty  – losing 5-1 against KLB and 3-2 against Uist is a big difference from last year. Ally Lamont scored Two goals and Connor scored 1.  Next year let’s hope Lewis can kick on and win the medal on home turf – with more youth players hopefully being involved in the senior team this can only benefit the whole club.  KLB won after a 3-3 draw with Uist saw them win the Medal on goal difference.

Thanks to Iain Sinclair and John Nally for all their work.

Big thanks to Floor to Floor for their sponsorship of the medals!
