Camanachd Leòdhais brought the away season to a close with a historic, complete performance at traditional happy hunting grounds, Cannich Park, against Strathglass. The result a resounding 12-nil, with all the goals coming in the final hour of the match to extend the league winning run to 10 games in a row.

It took us nearly 30 mins to break the deadlock against a stubborn home side which featured former Lewis players Eòghan Stewart and Hamish Myers. Stewart between the sticks certainly seemed determined to keep his old club mates out as he made several key saves in the opening period, but finally Paul Duke took advantage of confusion in the home defence to volley in our opener. Strathglass rallied before Donnie MacRae made it 2-0, five minutes before the break. Dukey added a third shortly before the interval to give us a 3-0 lead to take into the second half.

However, a fantastic second half performance which blew the home side away saw goals galore. Daniel Harrison, playing what was likely his last game of the season, signed off with two goals. Not to be outdone, Callum MacRitchie copied the feat with a double of his own.

A special mention to Dukey who then scored twice more, putting him on 41 career goals for Camanachd Leòdhais, overtaking Will Church to lie second on our all-time scoring charts. A phenomenal achievement for one of our greatest servants.

Donnie then got his second of the day with ten minutes to go to make it double figures.

We didn’t let up though and a first of the season for Peter Gomez, followed by a second of the season for Connor Chalmers in the dying moments wrapped up a 12-0 win.

A sensational way to round off our away portion of the season. A huge thanks to Strathglass for hosting us. There was little the home side could have done to deal with the Dubh is Gorm in irresistible form and their hospitality and good grace was well noted. Speaking after the game Eòghan Stewart said “A deserved result [for Lewis], sore to be on the losing end of such a score, but great to see the attitude and skill of a Lewis team at that level – great that what we started back in the day has come so far.”

Our final two games take place at Shawbost over the next fortnight. Lochaber are first up on 26th August before we round off our season against today’s opponents Strathglass on 2nd September.

We hope to see you all at Shawbost to support us as we finish off such a successful season!
