The club are delighted to announce that we have been nominated for a Sunday Mail/SportScotland Scottish Sports Award 2011.  We have been nominated in the category of Local Club of the Year, alongside Stirling Triathlon Club and Newarthill Amateur Boxing and Fitness Club.

The Sunday Mail says “A fairytale community story, reintroducing a sport to the Hebrides which had been dormant since Word War One and battling hard to win over mainland league clubs who only allowed them in on trial.”

To even be in the nominated three is a great honour as we have been chosen from thousands of nominations for different  sports clubs across Scotland. To put things in perspective, those chosen for sports person of the year include Andrew Murray, Ricky Burns, Dario Franchitti and John Higgins.

The star-studded awards will be hosted by ESPN’s Kelly Cates and TV’s Stephen Jardine at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow on December 1.

This caps an unbelievable week with the premiere of “Black and Blue” on BBC Alba sending the viewing public into a frenzy. If you are quick you may still get to catch  it on iPlayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0171tnt/Trusadh_Series_4_Lewis_Camanachd_Black_and_Blue/. Thank you for all the messages of support saying how much you enjoyed the programme, from Breascleit to Badenoch.

We also had Ronald Ross up last week coaching the kids at Stornoway Primary and then an Adult and U17 session in the evening. Apparently Ronald, who is known by the nickname “Gaga of the Glens”, won the Amateur Sportsman Award at last year’s Scottish Sports Awards and tells us it is a good night out. Thanks to Ronald for coming over.

Remember that the 100 Club is seeking new members and whether you are an avid shinty fan or just a wellwisher, in Lewis or in the furthest reaches of Siberia, you can drop Paul Duke a line via facebook or by phoning him on o77692714o6.  All money except for prize money goes directly into supporting the development of shinty in the Western Isles, and of course the prize money directly benefits you!

There is a coaching course in Ullapool next weekend, (20th Nov), http://www.shinty.com/news/foundation-coaching-course-ullapool/, details here.
