Lewis 0 – Boleskine 5

July 29th, 2012 No comments

Unfortunately a performance which was excellent in the first half faded in the second half as we succumbed to Boleskine. That was the home season for the year finished. Thanks for the big crowd who turned up, we’ll see you all next year. Onwards and upwards. Get in touch with Paul if you want to come on the supporters’ bus to Beauly.

Photos by Coinneach as usual. Also usual lack of goals but here’s the top Scorers chart. The bottle of whiskey Eòghan promised anyone who scored ten this season looks safe!

Last of the Home Games 2012 – Boleskine This Saturday 28th July

July 23rd, 2012 No comments

It’s flying past, this season, faster than Bradley Wiggins on a bike. Honestly, it doesn’t seem yesterday since we were lining up against Lochbroom at the start of March, it’s been some summer and there are only two more games left.

Anyway forget all this Olympic nonsense and get yourself along to Siabost this Saturday for our last home game of the season where you will see us face up to Boleskine at 2.30pm. The Loch Ness team have been one side we haven’t covered ourselves in glory against in the last couple of seasons so let’s make it a big performance on Saturday. No point in settling for silver.

You can join the event here on facebook. While you are at it why don’t you join the Camanachd Leodhais facebook group for players and fans.

Scottish Hydro National Player Development Camp

July 17th, 2012 No comments

Camanachd Leodhais are very proud to announce that for the first time since 2007, we will have representation at the Scottish Hydro National Development Camp at Strathallan School in Perthshire.  Our representatives are Connor Chalmers, Michael MacLeod and Paddy Sinclair, who have all made a large contribution on the park this year.

There will be around 70 Under17 players involved in the camp which draws players from across the shinty world and can result in selection for the National Development Squad which will tour Ireland in 2013.

Along with the three Camanachd Association Development Officers, the coaching team will include Scotland Internationalist and Fort William star, Gary Innes, Camanachd Cup medal winners, Fraser Inglis and Michael Clark and covering fitness will be Stephanie Dunstaffnage.  Dietician, Pam Paul, who has worked with many top sportsmen and women, will also be there to speak to the players.

The camp ends Thursday 19th July when presentations will be made to the Player of the Camp, Most Improved Player and to the player who shows an Outstanding Display of Commitment. We hope that our boys can impress the shinty world. Good luck.

HebCelt Cup Lewis 2 – Uist 2 (Uist win on Penalties)

July 17th, 2012 No comments

Congratulations to Uist who won the Cup on Saturday for the first time since 2009. Fazel Froughi scored a double for Uist and although Scott and Stompy countered it went to penalties where Uist managed to get the win. Whilst we didn’t play well ourselves it was a great spectacle for the festival crowds, thanks to both teams as well as the players from other clubs who took part to ensure we had a full sized game, Diablo for refereeing and of course to all at the Hebridean Celtic Festival for their generous support of shinty in the Western Isles for the last six years.

If you’re an Uibhisteach who’s spying on us to see what we’re saying about you , you can check out photos of the victory here. Congratulations and we hope we see you next year for the re-match.

Of course, there is one man who can claim to have played for both clubs, the incomparable Blot – check out his own photography stuff here

Lewis 3 – 1 Inverness

A great day with our first home win of the season and the double done over Inverness. Scott and Stompy were the men who put us three up in a ten minute spell. All three goals were absolute crackers and having been on top in a lot of games this year and just not having the luck, it was great to see the back of the net burst so efficiently. Tyson played a captain’s role and every player should be happy with their efforts.
Iain Greenhouse was the Town’s best player and got a goal which made the second half a little tighter, but the defence played absolutely fantastic shinty against a mighty wind.
The result means we have leaped to 7th in the league and we can look forward to Boleskine and Beauly with confidence. Next up is the Cup Final with Uist this Saturday.

Lochcarron game ends in close defeat

July 1st, 2012 No comments

Lewis 2 – 3 Lochcarron

A tight encounter at Shawbost ended in Lochcarron snatching a 3-2 win. We took the lead through Tyson and held on until Andrew Slaughter was able to break through the defence on the half hour mark. We went in at halftime level but Slaughter added a second after around ten minutes of the second period. Scott then replied with a rocket shot from halfway.

The game was tense and could have gone either way but then Kenny Cushnie scored a straight shot from the edge of the pitch which eluded Conor. We had several chances ourselves and everyone put in a good shift, in the corresponding fixture last year we lost 9-0, so we can look at this as progress.Next week the Town!
