Latha mòr gaothach aig Siabost ach bha e grianach bho àm gu h-àm is bha deagh chluiche ri fhaicinn. Feumaidh tu cuimhneachadh gun robh sinn an aghaidh fior dheagh sgioba ‘s iad làn de dh’eòlas air cupannan a bhuannachadh. Mille taing dhan Bhaile Ùr airson tighinn a-nall Chì sinn a-rithist sibh.

Good day for shinty in Lewis, better for Mr Callum Stewart who nabbed a double hat-trick as Newtonmore beat na Leòdhasaich 7-0. His brother Neil got the final goal of the afternoon.

Apart from the goals, and the struggle against the constant strong wind in the first half in particular, we showed up well and hopefully we can take many of the positives in terms of hitting, tackling and general attitude forward into the new season then we can make some good progress this year.

Thanks to the Gob for reffing and thanks to all who helped contribute to a great day, especially those who bought a raffle ticket and also Scramble, Balla and Tonkin for the coaching at the Primary School.

Andrew Henderson Departs Club With Best Wishes

February 14th, 2012 No comments

Andrew Henderson of Bettyhill has left Camanachd Leodhais to play for Inverness in 2012.

Andrew previously played for Farr Camanachd and Naver Athletic but with shinty development in the Far North stalled he took the option of contributing to our first season as a league club.

Dukey said “spoke with Andrew Henderson and after some lengthy discussion  agreed that it would be in the best interests of his shinty career to play for another club. This was due to various factors but with his long journeys and as we have a growing pool of players and it would have been difficult for him to gain playing time especially as we have young players coming through who also need time on the park.”

“I’m sure everyone will join me in thanking Andrew for his contributions in our debut season and his dedication to the club in terms of the distance travelled, even if he was late for our first game in Beauly! I can honestly say it was a privilege to have him on our side.”

On making the difficult decision to leave the club where he won the Mod Cup, after having been on the losing side with Sutherland in 2010, Andrew said:

” Its been a pleasure to play for a great team and alongside a great bunch of lads, I look forward to my return to the island this season with Inverness to get the banter with the lads and also looking forward to playing you at the Bught this season!! All the best for the 2012 season!! Slainte mhath!”

Glasgow Uni 8 – Camanachd Leodhais 0

It was a tough old game at Yoker but a useful exercise in getting the kinks out before the new season. Thanks to Martin Hall for filling in at the last moment. We lost 8-0 but we pretty much chucked the ball in the net a few times, but fair play to Innes though for not doing too bad a job in the sticks, also good to see Ally Lamont back at the shinty and James Johnston coming out.  Thanks to the Uni boys for organising food and the park, it was good craic!

Congratulations to Sean and Joanne on getting engaged as well – we hear its a Friday night wedding as well to keep Saturday free for shinty!

Camanachd Leòdhais from: Innes Lamont, Ally Lamont, Ally MacKenzie, Scott Murray, Calum Stamper, Eòghan Stewart, Micheal MacDonald, Andy MacDonald, Sean MacLeod, Jordan MacLean, James Johnston, Martin Hall.

New Season Update – Glasgow University Update

February 1st, 2012 No comments

Update on the new season, fixture list should be out next Wednesday 8th February.

We will be joined in North Three by Strathspey Camanachd, and congratulate them on being accepted into the league and look forward to visiting them and also hosting them at Shawbost  – they are based at Freuchie Park near Grantown-on-Spey and are managed by Lawrence MacNeacail Belleni, a former Glasgow Uni teammate of Eoghan’s.

They of course replace Ardnamurchan, who dropped out of North Three to join development shinty but are now accepted into South Two, so best of luck to them, always good to see a shinty club keeping going through adversity.  We also get a name check from the Hugh Dan in this wee clip.

However, we will not avoid a possible two-dayer to Lochaber with Kilmallie coming down from North Two – we should expect them to be of a similar standard as Skye Seconds.  We welcome them to the league and also extend them a warm welcome to Lewis when the fixture comes around.

Other than those additions and subtractions, we haven’t heard that there will be any change in the other teams with all of last year’s opponents entering teams as far as we are aware.

We have a game away to Glasgow University this Saturday, Throw Up 1pm, Peterson Park, Yoker.

All players should be at Yoker for 12 noon.

Squad: Eoghan, Scott, Stompy, Andy, Ally MacKenzie, Innes Lamont, Ally Lamont, Sean, Jordan, Kenny Mould, Micheal, James (Sean’s friend)

Bring £2 for pitch hire and ref.
