Cupa a’ Mhòid 2011

May 29th, 2011 No comments

Tha an Comunn Gàidhealach air là ainmeachadh airson Cupa a’ Mhòid am-bliadhna nuair a thilleas am Mòd dha na h-Eileanan an Iar airson a’ chiad uair bho 2005.

Thèid an gèam a chumail eadar Leòdhas agus Uibhist aig Machair Lionacleit air Disathairne 15mh an Dàmhair aig meadhan-latha.

Chaill Leòdhas an turas mu dheireadh a chaidh an gèam a chumail an-seo ann an 2005.  Chluich Camanachd a’ Bhàc an aghaidh Chaol Acainn ann an Tairbeart ann an 2001 agus roimhe sin, chluich a’ Mhanachainn agus an t-Eilean Sgitheanach aig Ceann a’ Bhàigh ann an 1987!

Bidh cuirm as dèidh a’ ghèam agus tha sinn an dòchas gun glèidh sinn an cupa airson a’ chiad uair.  Cuir nad leabhar-latha e!

An Comunn Gàidhealach have named the day for the Mòd Cup when the Mòd returns to the Western Isles for the first time since 2005.

The game between Lewis and Uist Camanachd will be played at Lionacleit Machair on Saturday 15th October at noon.

Lewis lost the last time the game was played here in 2005.  Back Camanachd played against Kyleakin in Tarbert in 2001 and before that, Beauly played Skye Camanachd at Bayhead in 1987!

There will be a function after the game and we hope that we can win the cup for the first time.  Put it in your diary!

Abair latha!

Mille taing dhan a h-uile duine airson latha mor Disathairne.

Lochbroom were great visitors and we’d like to thank them for coming over in droves!

Final score was 7-1 to the Braoinich.  Congratulations to Scott on scoring the first ever Lewis goal in Lewis however.

Also of note was the fact that Martin “Toad” MacLean who played for the Broom also played for Beauly back in the Mod Cup in Stornoway in 1987 against Skye!

More to follow,

The club has received support from MP for na h-Eileanan an Iar, Angus Brendan MacNeil on the eve of our big match against Lochbroom.

“It was huge undertaking for Lewis Camanachd to seek and get entry to North Division Three for the 2011 season. While competitive shinty is new to Lewis, the sport has a huge history in the islands, with camanachd being played on the machairs of Lewis long before football.

“Although the team have played a number of games away from home, this will be their first home game on Staurday against Lochbroom in Shawbost, and it will give many in Lewis who are interested in the sport an opportunity to watch competitive shinty being played on the island for the first time.

“I would encourage those with an interest in shinty to make every effort to try and attend the match, and cheer the side on, and prove to the shinty world that competivie shinty in Lewis is here to stay.”

This quote is included in a large article available in this week’s Stornoway Gazette and can also be seen at the link below.

Inverness v Lewis

May 2nd, 2011 No comments

It’s a sign of how far we’ve come in a year that we were disappointed not to come away with full points from a game that we had the lion’s share of opportunities.

Anyway, Inverness took their’s but Donald did score his first goal of the season.

All eyes on Siabost now!
